Random Acts of Kindness

Next week there will be no typical homework. Instead students will be surprising you and their siblings with random acts of kindness. In the spirit of the holidays it seems an appropriate time to reinforce the feeling of giving. We hope this brightens your day and that you "pay it forward."

Blogging with 4G

3W Learns Something New

Blogging

Today was a very exciting day in 3W.  We have officially turned into bloggers!  This morning, with the help from our 4G , we got an introduction to blogging.  This year I will be using a site called Kidblogs.  Blogging allows students to publish their work for an authentic audience.  Furthermore, students can explore other Kidblogs and respond with comments or questions.

An important thing parents should know about our Kidblog site is that it is totally moderated by me.  No post or comment will show up on the site unless I have personally previewed and approved it.

An equally important thing for parents to know is that because of the moderation set up, our Kidblog site is visible to everyone. Our students will have a real worldwide audience, and I am sure that comments will be coming in from everywhere.

Lastly, the students are well aware of their responsibility and safety on the Internet.  I could tell from our discussion they know to never use the Internet without permission.  Moreover, the students understand they can only use first names in their posts.  Again, I will approve all posts and comments for appropriateness and user safety.

If you would like to view the site now, click on to       kidblog.org/mrswansartsclass
Your child has their own password and will be able to show you how this works. We are at the beginning stages of this so there is a lot to remember and learn.

Homework

Dear Families,
Your child is bringing home the addition math facts that they will be tested on this Friday. Although these may be very easy for some of the children please find time to do a quick practice on them so a routine is established for future weeks. They are also bringing home the next six spelling words.
3W does celebrate birthdays as an optional activity. If your child wants to bring in a healthy snack for the class we will find time to enjoy it. Remember no peanuts or sugary treats please.
Next week will begin the NCAP testing for 3,4 and 5th graders. Please be sure your child is rested well each day and has eaten a good breakfast. We usually only take one test per day and will finish near the end of October. You may notice some practice reading tests in your child's homework folder.
Thank you again for attending the Open House!
Cathy

3W Updates

Dear Families,
I enjoyed meeting and talking with you last night at Open House. The children were very excited about the notes you left in their writing journals. I am sending home our related arts schedule today that I mentioned last night. We took our first spelling test today and the next six words will come home on Monday. We will also begin our first math fact pattern next week. I will be sending home the facts to practice so your child can be successful on Friday when we take our first test. Remember to turn in book orders by next Friday please.
If you are getting an email with this post on it then you have subscribed successfully. If you want to reply to me just reply like you would with any email. If you wanted to see our home page go to the bottom of the email and click on Mrs. wansarts Blog and it should take you there. The email is the current posting. Please send me an email so I know you are receiving this information. Thank you for all of your help and support.
Have a great weekend!

Open House

I wanted to send out a reminder about our Open House tomorrow evening at 6:30. You will be able to sign up for November conferences as well as your child's Student of the Week date. 3W still does not have a room parent so hopefully someone will be able to volunteer for this. The main way you will help is organizing classroom holiday parties. The children have been busy and are looking forward to having you see their projects and work. I am looking forward to meeting you and talking about our classroom.
